The initial inspiration for Yiash was early 20th-century Egyptian popular music by composers Zaki Murad and Dawud Husni. Yiash performs cover arrangements of some of these composers' work and also performs Laster's pieces that showcase the group's unusual instrumentation and rhizomic approach to improvisation.
